Story
Friends of the British Overseas Territories (FOTBOT) is raising funds to support urgent legal action relating to the future of the Chagos Islands.
The proposed arrangements concerning sovereignty and resettlement have profound consequences for the Chagossian people — many of whom were forcibly removed from their homeland and have spent decades seeking recognition, justice and the right to determine their own future. Decisions are now being taken that will shape the future of the islands and their community for generations.
This fund will help cover legal fees and other campaign costs associated with ensuring that the voices of Chagossians are properly heard, that due process is followed, and that any decisions taken are subject to appropriate scrutiny and challenge where necessary.
Legal action is never undertaken lightly. However, when fundamental principles such as self-determination, consultation, and the rights of British citizens are at stake, it is vital that those affected have access to robust legal representation and the wider campaign support necessary to make their case effectively.
All donations will go directly towards meeting legal fees and other campaign costs, such as events, campaigns, rallies, etc. Transparency and accountability will underpin the use of funds.
By contributing, you are helping to ensure that justice is pursued, that constitutional principles are upheld, and that the Chagossian community is not sidelined in decisions about their own future.
Thank you for standing with the Chagossian people and FOTBOTs mission to save the Chagos Islands.
