Story

My name is Vanessa Gunter. I am a local flautist and music teacher and in my spare time I lead Claines Church Choir and Instrumental Group. I am also a keen triathlete, but what many people don't know is that I have ME/CFS. This is a chronic and complex condition that affects the neurological and immune system, resulting in pain and exhaustion, often with no obvious cause. I am incredibly fortunate that I am able to largely control my symptoms through careful lifestyle management, and I wouldn't have been able to do this without the love and support of everyone around me.

This year at Claines Church we are celebrating that there has been a worshipping community on this site for 1066 years, and to mark that I am challenging myself to run 1066 miles in one year which averages at around 20 miles a week.

Will you sponsor me and help me to raise funds for Claines Church and ME research?

Every penny we raise will go towards our church project to install better facilities for hospitality and towards research into ME/CFS. I consider myself extremely blessed to be able to run and am always thankful when I can set off on a training session. It would be incredible to know that every mile covered in 2023 will benefit everyone who visits Claines Church. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

There has been a church on this site for 1066 years. The church is a hub for Christian worship and pastoral care. Beyond the building we work in local schools, care homes and with the elderly and at the Foodbank. The building is Grade II listed and the peaceful churchyard is a haven for wildlife.
