Story
At Cancer Fund for Children, were gearing up for the Charity Cycle Challenge and we want you along for the ride! With 90% of our income coming from the fundraising of amazing local businesses, clubs, schools and individuals, we had to jump on a new track so we can keep our wheels spinning and continue to provide vital support to families impacted by cancer now when it is needed more than ever. Its time to show us your pedal power
!
We went to Daisy Lodge, Newcastle in July and it was absolutely amazing. When you walk in the doors you are struck by the stunning view of the Mourne Mountains. It is so quiet and peaceful. The whole experience was so relaxing. One thing we found great was that there were bicycles available for us and we enjoyed going for cycles as a family. This was just a small things but it was really special. Cancer tears family life apart. It tears your life apart financially, emotional and mentally. Going to Daisy Lodge gave us a chance to come together as a unit, to forget about our worries and to spend precious time together. (Mum of a diagnosed child, from Cong, Co. Mayo)
At Cancer Fund for Children we connect, empower and strengthen children and young people so they do not have to face cancer alone. Every year we support over 500 families and 1,500 children and young people (age 0-24 years old) by providing practical and emotional support as well as free short break in Daisy Lodge, our therapeutic centre in Newcastle Co. Down.
Cancer, and how it affects children and their families, will not stop during the coronavirus crisis and with your support we will be here for families during the worst, as well as the best of times.
Coronavirus is having a major impact on all our lives - we are in uncharted territory and there is no-one who has not been affected by this crisis. So, we would like to say a massive and most sincere thank you to each and every participant and supporter of this challenge. Without your support, our work would not be possible.
Cancer will not stop, and with all you amazing people by our sides getting out there on your bikes and leading from the front, neither will we when children and young people need our support now more than ever.
When you live on the roller-coaster ride that is caring for a child with cancer, you need a complete safe haven that will relax you, mentally, physically and emotionally. Cancer Fund for Children provides all this. (Mum of a diagnosed child, from Northern Ireland)
