The Sickle Cell Society is the only national charity in the UK that supports and represents people affected by sickle cell disease to improve their overall quality of life. We provide information, advice, advocacy, respite, support services, hold talks, patient education seminars and training.

Story

Intro

Every year the Afro Caribbean Community in Peterborough throws two events, the Marcus Garvey Football Match in June and the SPAs BBQ in August.

Whilst both are good fun, attended by a multicultural spectrum of peoples in the city, neither lead our younger generations to raising the awareness of social or health issues, one of which is Sickle Cell Disorder

Background

My family are affected as two of us are carriers out of five, as is the same in my parental family. Friends and relatives have the Carrier Gene, whilst we have all known someone who has died of SCD in our city.

This September, our young men want to raise the awareness of SCD, raise monies through a charity football match where the Sons of Marcus Garvey will play the Sons of Outta Town
