Help Disabled Young People Find Their Voice
Across Dorset, many disabled young people experience isolation, low confidence and limited opportunities to take part in community life. YMCA Bournemouth’s Chatterboxes exists to change that.
Chatterboxes is a youth-led group for disabled young people aged 11–25, providing a safe, welcoming space where they can build friendships, develop confidence and discover their potential.
Why Chatterboxes Matters
For many of the young people who attend, Chatterboxes is the first place they truly feel they belong. Through weekly sessions, creative activities, social events and youth-led discussions, members gain skills, independence and a stronger sense of identity.
They also learn to speak up about the issues that affect their lives – helping them feel heard, valued and empowered.
“Chatterboxes helped me make friends and feel confident to speak up. It’s the one place where I feel accepted for who I am.”
