Story

Our vision at Bookmark is simple: we want every child to read.

We improve children’s reading & literacy skills by promoting a reading for pleasure culture in primary schools, with a focus on supporting children in the most disadvantaged communities.

More than 1 in 4 children in England are leaving primary school unable to read well. These children are more likely to experience unemployment, poor mental health and even a shorter life expectancy.

Children who enjoy reading are nearly four times more likely to read above the level expected for their age. However, too many children don’t have access to the books, stories and support they need to develop their love of reading.

Over the next two years, our partnership with Bank of America employees will help us:

* Expand into six new areas of need, transforming hundreds of school reading spaces and giving over 40,000 children access to high-quality, diverse books and resources.

* Scale up Bookmark’s online reading programme, training volunteers to deliver one-to-one support to children in order to develop their reading skills and confidence.

* Sponsor an edition of The Story Corner magazine, engaging 185,000 children in reading outside of school and mitigating learning loss during the holidays.

Together, we will change the story for children.
