Storm Eunice took our chicken shed!

We are sad to report that the strong winds from Storm Eunice have destroyed our chicken shed at our Pembrokeshire farm, Lower Treginnis!

Founded in 1976 by children’s author Michael Morpurgo and his wife Clare, our three farms welcome 3000 children and young people from underserved communities each year, helping them to step outside of their daily lives, learn new skills, grow in confidence and be braver, stronger and more resilient.

Story

Sadly today the winds brought by Storm Eunice have blown down our chicken housing shed at our Pembrokeshire farm, Lower Treginnis - please click on the main photo to see the full gallery and the current state of the shed!

Luckily, all the hens were tucked away somewhere safe but their permanent house is no more. We urgently need to replace the chicken shed, which unfortunately will cost nearly £5,000 at a time when our finances are extremely limited. So we are shouting out for your support!

Our hens play an integral part in our work with children. Many children have never met a hen before and are nervous to meet them. As the week goes on they get used to being around the flock, becoming more confident, until they are comfortable to feed them and hold them, which is a big achievement and self esteem boost. Children very often tell us the hens are their favourite bit about the farm.

Our young people learn all about chick development and love to watch the eggs hatching in the incubators - which have had to be moved next to the AGAs as we keep losing power and don't want to lose any of our chicks. The farm to fork journey is an essential part of life and educating our young people through working with the eggs is a great practical way to bring this to life as we enjoy Muck and Magic for the week.

As you can see our wonderful hens deserve the very best of care. We really appreciate your support to get the hens accommodation back up and running ASAP!
