Chloe is an unclaimed Beagle stray that has extensive issues with both ear canals and desperately needs surgery to solve the problem.
Chloe is a beagle of around six/seven years old; she was originally found as a stray and no owner was located. Chloe was not in the greatest of condition, she suffers from a skin issue which our vet feels is mainly allergy based, this is currently being managed with medication and regular bathing.
Sadly, having this underlying and untreated allergy issue, has left some irreparable damage to Chloes ears, the condition has meant that she has had pretty much constant ear infections her whole life, poor girl must have been almost driven mad with pain and irritation.
The constant head shaking has lead to haematomas in both ears, again untreated these dry and shrink causing a cauliflower ear situation with deep creases being formed and yet another site for build-up of bacteria and infection causing more pain and discomfort which leads to more head shaking, just an awful vicious circle.
Our vets assessed Chloe on her arrival, and we have tried some of the less invasive means of treatment, but none have proven successful, and we began to discuss the option of surgery when lockdown was announced. Throughout this period, we have managed Chloes condition with medication, but it has proven that if we want to make a big difference to Chloes quality of life, we will need to carry out the surgery.
Chloe needs a bilateral total ear canal ablation (TECA), and both ears removed. This will remove all risk of future infection, irritation, and pain. Its quite a specialist and extensive surgery that we have had done before with wonderful success.
The plan would be that Chloe would have two operations to remove the ear canal and ear on one side and then about two weeks later repeat the procedure on the other side. Each operation will cost £1500 a total of £3000 needed for both operations.
We ask you to help us help Chloe, to see her when they are at their worst is pitiful and she is in extreme distress, and this surgery may be extreme but it will hopefully will give her a quality of life he hasnt know for years, if ever!
Even a few pounds will help us reach our target and all being well we will be able to carry out the first operation early July.
