This holiday season, 1,500 children will spend the holidays under the care of nurses and doctors at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and away from their families. While being home for the holidays puts so many in the spirit, for some families that is not a reality. Families like Kendra's...
Kendra and her family moved from Puerto Rico when she was just 6 months old to be closer to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Sick with a severe disorder affecting the muscles that line the bladder and intestines, Kendra's family made the move to Pittsburgh in 2011.
"The only place I could find that was able to treat her condition was this hospital, her dad, Roger, says of UPMC Children's. The only survivors of her condition are treated here."
With her medical journey spanning over nine-years, Kendra received a multivisceral transplant of the liver, pancreas, stomach, small bowel, and colon earlier this year. While this was the outcome her family had been waiting for, Kendra's journey wasn't over. On average, she has eight or more hospital stays each year... some just a few days, while others can last months. During those stays, Kendra misses holidays, birthdays, and most importantly her family. Kendra and so many more patients need the help of their neighbors and communities more than ever. No matter where they call home, you can ensure that their holidays are just as bright!

All donations will be available for our Child Life Department to purchase new toys and gifts for our patients spending their holidays in Pittsburgh. Together our community can ensure that smiles and laughter fill the hallways at UPMC Children's this holiday season! We're all neighbors when we help kids!
