Story

In December 2019 we had a Toy car drive to support Ben's Toy Car Bins. It was a huge success with 4500 toy cars given to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh!

As we move forward and want to grow Ben’s bins we have changed Ben’s Toy Car Bin’s, that exclusively distributed toy cars, to Ben’s Toy Bins that is providing toys for all ages, and genders. This title change will help reach more kids with new toys.

Unfortunately due to COVID, Children's will NOT be accepting any physical toy donations again this year. Luckily, Ben's Toy Bins is established and ready to deliver Christmas Joy. We are working with Children's to purchase gifts for kids in the hospital over Christmas this year. We have set up a fundraising page through The Children's Foundation to receive donations going directly to Ben's Toy Bins Fund.

We need your help! Please donate and spread some joy to kids in the hospital this Christmas.

Thank you for remembering Ben with us in this way, and giving comfort and happiness to a child while they are in the Hospital.

Hoping to get back to a physical Toy drive someday...

Our son Ben was a fun-loving, silly, and energetic 10 year-old who LOVED playing with toy cars! An avid collector of HotWheels, Ben convinced his Dad to film YouTube videos of him reviewing toy cars and racing them on tracks that he built himself. Ben’s toy car reviews soon led to him making YouTube video reviews of real cars for a local dealership—a dream come true for our little boy.

On November 2, 2017, Ben suffered a brain aneurysm and had an extended stay at the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital. After 23 days of bravely fighting for life in the ICU, he passed away. Ben overcame
many obstacles in life, including Autism/ADHD, Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease, High Blood Pressure, and Liver Fibrosis. We are so proud of all he was able to accomplish in his short life. The memories of him bring us comfort and sorrow as we figure out who we are without him.

So, to celebrate Ben’s amazing life and honor his passion for cars, we teamed with our family and friends to set up a fund at Children’s Hospital. This fund was established to give out free, brand new, HotWheels cars to any patient who wants one. For children who are bored and hurting, a simple toy car can distract from the pain, bring joy, and help with the path to recovery.

Donations are important because even though HotWheel cars only cost a dollar, there are a lot of kids checking in and out of the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital each day. We are asking for your help to make the Ben's Toy Car Bins a permanent fixture at the hospital. By donating, not only will you help us keep Ben’s memory alive, you’ll help put smiles on the faces of children who need it the most!
