We are Oxford's oldest homeless charity. We have won the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service and help around 200 homeless and vulnerably housed people per year.
We know that good, fresh nourishing food is one of the key requirements in helping maintain both physical and mental health. It is a prerequisite for our vulnerable members.
Over Christmas we are staying open providing two hot meals a day, six days a week. We will stay open on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. As well as offering a daily outreach service, we are the only indoor centre for rough sleepers in Oxford. We have trained staff and have made the venue Covid safe, providing shower and laundry facilities and a warm indoor space for the vulnerable.
On Christmas Day we will provide Christmas dinner to approximately 100 people using a large former church hall in Magdalen Road, where we can serve small groups at socially distanced tables and with staff using protective equipment. In this way our service will be Covid safe for rough sleepers.
Many clients describe this aspect of what we are doing as lifesaving, not only for their physical health but also for their mental well-being. As one client told us, 'If there weren't people like you, then we'd be in a dangerous place
'
We would love you to help us by supporting our centre to stay open throughout Christmas. This would help to reduce our food and running costs at The Porch, allowing us to stretch our resources further to help even more vulnerable people.
£10 will buy two nutritious meals for a homeless person a day
£20 will ensure food ingredients for our Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year meals
£50 will help us provide free coffee, tea and sugar for a month for the homeless
£100 will support therapeutic activities for the homeless like our art therapy group
Thank you
