About Children's Home Society of Virginia

Established in 1900, Children's Home Society of Virginia is guided by the fundamental belief that every child deserves a home. CHS places children and youth from the foster care system in permanent, loving homes. We serve a diverse range of children, youth and families and give them the support they need to thrive. My Path Forward, our program for youth ages 17 to 25 who have aged out of the foster care system, provides housing and all the tools needed to secure independence. All of our programs are supported by our generous donors, who change lives every day.

About Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity year-round.

How to get going:

1. Click on the Start Fundraising button.

2. Make an account, then create and customize your "Children's Home Society of Virginia Giving Tuesday 2021" fundraising page with your own goal, picture and a story about why CHS is important to you.

3. Share your fundraising page with your family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and classmates. Ask that they join you in supporting CHS with a donation to support our mission.

4. Sample verbiage when sharing your fundraising page: "Children's Home Society of Virginia is participating in ]#GivingTuesday, a one day giving campaign, on November 30th! Join me in supporting CHS to ensure every child finds their forever family. As a fundraising champion for CHS, I have my own fundraising page, so check out this link to donate to my personal fundraiser during Giving Tuesday: [FUNDRAISING PAGE LINK]"

The Difference You Make

$50-Activity for a foster child to meet a prospective adoptive family for the first time, such as dinner or bowling together with a social worker

$100-Post Adoption Club activity for CHS adoptive children to meet, interact with and identify with others like them

$250-Parenting skills training session for prospective families on topics such as dealing with trauma and parenting an abused child

$500-Provide internet service for a My Path Forward youth for one year

$1,000-Furnish a My Path Forward apartment

$1,500-One year of post adoption counseling support for a child and their new family

$5,000-Rent for one year for one of our My Path Forward youth
