We are a self-advocacy group for people with learning disabilities in the Wokingham borough. Self-advocacy is when you speak up for yourself about the things that are important to you. CLASP help people with learning disabilities to do this. We support each other to speak up for our rights and live more independently. CLASP stands for Caring, Listening And Supporting Partnership. How is CLASP helping people to speak up for themselves? As a user-led organisation – we are run by our members. We employ people with learning disabilities and offer voluntary opportunities. We support our members to have their say about how local services are developed. We have a training group called Listen To Us – who deliver learning disability awareness training. We run a campaigning group called Take Notice. We work in partnership with other organisations to run projects. We provide one to one support, information, advice and signposting.

Story

CLASP’s 20th anniversary

CLASP was founded in 2005, which means that CLASP is 20 years old this year! We will be celebrating throughout the year, trying new exciting things, challenging ourselves, raising funds and giving back to our community. 50% of the money raised as part of our 20th Anniversary will be donated to another local Charity as nominated by the CLASP Members.

All members, staff, volunteers and trustees have pledged to take on a ’20 challenge’ during the year, for example, visit 20 new places, walk 20 miles or make 20 new meals.

We will also each try 20 new experiences. Some of these will be on offer during CLASP sessions, such as the Drumming Workshop in January and Morris Dancing later on in the year, and some will be completed on our own or with friends.
