Story
Help Secure the Future of Clevedon Community Centre & Princes Hall
Clevedon Community Centre has been at the heart of our town for generations.
The Centre is based at Sunhill House, a beautiful historic building that was once a grand private villa. Its last owner, Joseph Woodington, was a well-known, community-minded businessman of his time. He was actively involved in Clevedon’s Bowls Club, Football Club and Golf Club, and employed many local people through his boot factory.
It feels only right that, following his ownership, Sunhill House was transformed into a community centre in 1949, opening its doors for the people of Clevedon, a legacy of community spirit that continues to this day.
Today, the Centre and Princes Hall are places where friendships are formed, skills are shared, and people of all ages come together. From children taking their first steps into activities, to older residents finding connection and companionship, this is a space that truly belongs to all of us.
But community spaces like ours don’t survive on goodwill alone.
Why we’re raising £100,000
Clevedon Community Association is a charity-run organisation. We work hard to keep the Centre welcoming, affordable and accessible for everyone, but rising costs, essential maintenance and the need to invest in our facilities mean we must act now to protect its future.
The Community Association receives no regular funding and relies entirely on donations and self-fundraising to keep the Centre running.
Sunhill House is an old and much-loved building, but it is now becoming a cause for concern. Without urgent action, parts of the building risk deteriorating to a point where repairs become far more difficult and costly.
Over the next year, we aim to raise £100,000 to:
- Maintain and improve our much-loved community buildings.
- Ensure the Centre remains safe, warm and accessible for everyone.
- Support the wide range of activities, groups and events that rely on the space.
- Safeguard the Centre for future generations of Clevedon residents
This isn’t about luxury, it’s about preserving a vital community asset.
What the funds will be used for
The money raised will help us to carry out essential works, including:
• A complete rewire of Sunhill House and Princes Hall
• Removal of asbestos from areas of the building
• Replacing all doors with fire-regulated doors
• Repairing and redecorating rooms damaged by roof leaks
• Replacing the roof on Princes Hall
These works are critical to keeping the Centre safe, functional and fit for the future.
Why your support matters
Every donation, large or small, helps keep the doors open and the lights on. It ensures that local groups have a place to meet, families have somewhere to celebrate, and that no one in our community feels left behind.
By supporting this campaign, you’re not just donating money, you’re investing in:
• Community connection
• Wellbeing and inclusion
• A shared space that belongs to Clevedon
