Story
The Great Climate Cook-In is a week-long event taking place between Monday 26th July and Sunday 1st August. Throughout the week, people across the UK will host climate-friendly dinner parties for their friends or family. The event is aimed at getting more people thinking and talking about the climate impact of what we eat, and also to raise funds for practical action on climate change.
Why should I cook for the climate?
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing humanity at the moment, and, with over a quarter of global emissions coming from food, it is clear that we need serious changes in our diet if we are to avoid a climate breakdown.
As lockdowns around the country begin to ease this summer, we all want to reconnect with our loved ones and socialise safely. Sharing a meal is a great way to introduce people to the wonders of low-carbon foods, learn or hone your cooking skills and have a great time, all while raising money to help inspire more climate action in the future. So what better way to have a good time and help the planet than cooking up a climate friendly feast.
How can I Get Involved?
The Great Climate Cook-In is all about getting involved and we need as many people as possible to do so. Will you cook up a climate-friendly meal for your friends or family this July?
Whether your Climate Cook-In is a plant-based barbeque with mates, a plastic-free picnic with colleagues, or a seasonal supper with the in-laws, is entirely up to you. There are many ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our mealtimes, so we are not telling people what to eat and what not to eat. Instead were encouraging people to think about the different ways we can reduce our impact on the planet, and will be here to offer support and resources for anyone who wants it. Well send you everything you need to have an enjoyable and impactful occasion.
