Children's climate action project

Organised by Climate Ed

We deliver workshops about carbon literacy and climate action in schools through our network of trained volunteers. We aim to inspire children and their families to reduce their carbon emissions, while still enjoying happy and fulfilling lives.

Climate Ed provide an inspirational in-school climate learning experience for children aged 9-11. We are unique in delivering our programme through our trained volunteer network of passionate, knowledgeable and committed climate advocates, and offering it free of charge to schools.

Story

What exactly do we do?

We teach primary-aged children about climate change and inspire them and their families to take action. We do this through our network of trained volunteers who deliver workshops about carbon literacy, climate science and the future beyond fossil fuels.

A recent report in The Lancet showed that 60% of UK children feel anxious about climate change and 55% feel angry. Only 24% feel optimistic. Climate change is not on the National Curriculum and research from Oxfam and YouGov shows that while 69% of teachers feel it should be taught more, 75% feel they haven’t received adequate training to do so.

What's the vision?

We aim to give children the knowledge and motivation to get involved with the issue and discover that climate action can be fun. Through this we also aim to make children less anxious about climate change, by giving them a message of hope and positivity.

We've already achieved so much

So far, our volunteers have guided over 12,000 students through our in-depth carbon literacy programme.

We started off small and now we need your support to reach more students. We've got lots of volunteers and schools who want to welcome them and many of our volunteers are leaders in their fields - scientists, journalists, sustainability experts. From our roots in south London we are now rapidly expanding across the UK, with hubs in Oxford and the West Midlands and the North West (launching summer 2025). We currently reach c.2500 students each school term.

Our volunteers have energy, expertise and a great set of activities to engage children. We get them thinking about climate change in a fun, positive way, and taking small bite-size actions that feel manageable and worthwhile.

Students say:

‘I want to do these workshops for the rest of my life! It was amazing how much you could learn.'

‘I would rate it 1,000,000 out of five if I could.’

Schools say:

'Invaluable and should be taught in every primary school.' (St Paul's Primary Whitechapel)

'All children should have the opportunity to take part in this carefully constructed and relevant programme.’ (Furzedown Primary)
