Story

Mission Sierra Leone was conceived during a casual conversation at the home of a very good friend of Father Montesi. Photographs of some of the disabled children, who are accommodated at Fatima House, were shown and guests involved in the viewing were shocked by the disabilities of the children.

Father Montesi explained that the required operations are expensive, so there was a reliance on volunteer surgeons to undertake the procedures.

The reaction of the guests was to offer help, which was in cash and in kind , amounting to £10,000! The in kind help provided the links necessary to arrange the surgery for 33 disabled children, which commenced some two months following the dinner!

Sinnah and her disabled companions will soon play active games like the other children, thanks to you, German surgeon Dr Fritjof, and Mission Sierra Leone.

A volunteer German surgeon secured funding for the surgery, but a gap in the required finance had to be filled.

Contact with a director of The Mercy Ship , which visits Africa to provide free medical care, enabled our person to access the surgeons list and provide the additional finance to allow the surgery to be carried out.

The contribution which was made, paid for the visits to and from the hospital by the children and carers, X-rays,plaster casts and dressings, crutches, all meals for children and carers and also the wages of the carers for3 months following surgery. The good news is that the children are well and free of the dressings!

Our funding target is £100,000, which will enable Mission Sierra Leone to assist by providing gap funding for worthwhile projects that improve the lives of disabled children in Sierra Leone.
