Cheadle Masjid has recognised the need to provide a fresh hot cooked Iftar for the many refugees staying in and around Manchester. The brothers and sisters who have fled conflict and persecution at home, are living on very basic food and we want to help them fill their stomachs with nutritious food as we fill ours.

Over the past two weeks our team has been cooking twice a week for 250 refugees, however, we want to increase that capacity due to the real need. To feed 250 people costs just £200 per meal, as our team of dedicated volunteers cook the meal themselves every day.

Refugee statistics

According to UNHCR official statistics, at the end of 2021, the total number of people worldwide who were forced to flee their homes due to conflicts, violence, fear of persecution and human rights violations was 89.3 million. This is more than double the 42.7 million people who remained forcibly displaced a decade ago and the most since World War II.

Of these 89.3 million displaced people there are 27.1 million refugees globally. We are grateful to be able to host just a few of these refugees in and around Manchester.
