Extreme Heat Hurts Homeless and Vulnerable Neighbors the Most
Here in Maricopa County, the summer sun can be dangerous, even deadly, for our vulnerable neighbors. That's why, when temperatures top 100 degrees, Phoenix Rescue Mission declares a Code:Red on the streets.
The numbers are staggering. In 2021, more than 300 neighbors in Maricopa County died from extreme heat--many of them homeless. The danger disproportionately targets our most vulnerable populations: seniors, those with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness.
With your help, we work tirelessly to provide heat relief all summer long. Our Hope Coach street outreach teams deliver refreshing water, Hope Totes, and connects our most vulnerable neighbors with resources to help them overcome poverty, addiction, and homelessness for good.
