As the war in Ukraine continues, it is easy to forget the thousands of teachers and their young pupils who continue to work and study in terrifying conditions. Teachers continue to travel to work each day and pupils attempt to study for an unknown future. We cannot imagine what it must be like.
Our small contribution seeks to help teachers and pupils deal with the trauma of the situation. The Sisters of the Assumption across Europe have joined together to provide funding for a range of educational initiatives. The Sisters at St Mary's University want to help by funding weekend formation sessions for teachers, bringing them together within a mutually supportive environment. The weekend sessions will help them develop their counselling skills at Lviv University and be able to support their own mental and physical needs and those of their pupils.
These counselling sessions have already started and are proving most beneficial to those who have been able to participate.
Our campaign will also help meet the financial costs of the small number of highly talented Ukraining musicians who have managed to escape the war and are currently continuing their studies in the UK.
The concert on the 28th of June will be performed by refugee musicians and dancers led by Dr. Stefania Passamonte and the London Performing Academy of Music (LPMAM). They will be joined by professional violinist Marina Raievska, professional Ukrainian singer Marayana Bondar and the Ukrainian dance ensemble 'Stefania'.
There is no charge for watching the concert via zoom. However, we would be delighted if you could make a donation to our Just Giving campaign.
