Due to the recent poor weather, Cherry Lane Garden Centre were forced to cancel their bonfire this year. The Scouts were set to receive a sizeable donation for their help. These funds were to go towards urgent repairs to our hut roof.
We need urgent repairs to our hut roof, to ensure we can continue to meet each week in a safe and secure building (and keep our kit dry!). As well as our roof, the hut is in need of various other areas of ongoing maintenance, expected to cost well over £10,000 in the coming years. We are appealing to the village and local area for any donations they are able to give, to help the Group and ensure we can continue with our planned hut maintenance.
Scouting in Countesthorpe provides Skills for Life to over 100 members, with highlights including numerous camps this year, a trip to the Houses of Parliament in April 2019 and our annual Pantomime which we are currently working towards. Every £1 donated helps us to continue offering these opportunities. Thankyou.
Story
As you may be aware, the poor weather has unfortunately meant the cancellation of the Cherry Lane Bonfire in Countesthorpe this Saturday 2nd November, a popular village event. As featured on BBC East Midlands Today on 30th October, for many years, 109th Leicester Countesthorpe Scouts have supported with the building of the bonfire and the marshalling of the main event, in return for a substantial donation to the Group. This has allowed us to keep running our exciting programme for over 100 young people from Countesthorpe and the surrounding areas at low cost to our members. Currently, we need urgent repairs to our hut roof, to ensure we can continue to meet each week in a safe and secure building, (and keep our kit dry!). As well as our roof, the hut is in need of various other areas of ongoing maintenance, expected to cost well over £10,000 in the coming years. The expected donation from this weekend had been budgeted to count towards these essential works, as we also maintain our general running costs. Now, thanks to the rain, we have of course lost this income. We are appealing to the village and local area to make a small donation if they are able to, to help reduce some of this financial loss to the Group and ensure we can continue with our planned hut maintenance.
