Crisis in Madagascar: We Need Your Help Today

Two powerful cyclones, Fytia and Gezani, have struck Madagascar just ten days apart. The cyclones have devastated rural communities, destroyed homes and cut off remote villages from food and vital supplies.

Durrell's mission is to save species from extinction by protecting the wild places and wildlife that make up our beautiful world. With your help we can create a wilder, healthier, more colourful world for us all to enjoy.

Story

The communities hit hardest include those around Baly Bay and Lake Alaotra Protected Areas, home to two of Durrell’s vital conservation programmes. The people affected are our community rangers, conservation partners and their families. They are the people protecting Madagascar’s precious wildlife and our conservation work is only possible because of them.

Families have lost their homes, and their crops have been washed away. Widespread flooding has left thousands of people displaced. Remote fishing communities have lost their boats and fishing gear. The scale of the humanitarian crisis is overwhelming, and the national authorities are struggling to cope.
