Our Crofton Georgian lantern is not just unique, it also has a special function, to let in light and let steam out. At the same time, the windows on the Engine House are also being repaired and repainted as necessary.
The lantern is at the very top of the boiler house, in the centre of the roof. The nature of the work, coupled with the location of the Lantern means that our volunteers cannot undertake the work themselves and we must call on specialists to help us.
Our Engine House sash windows are less difficult to get at, but there are a lot of them and they also require careful handling and restoration. These windows are more than just aesthetic features.
Their preservation is crucial to maintaining the authenticity and historical value of Crofton Beam Engines. They serve as a vital source of light, illuminating the intricate workings of the pumping station.
