Colinton Gateway Mural, Cuddies Lane, Colinton

A project enhancing a bleak, ugly wall - CAA has got planning permission for a new mural of rural scenes along Cuddies Lane.

The purpose of the Association is to maintain and enhance the physical environment of Colinton and to make it an attractive place for residents and visitors. Following on from the success of the Colinton Tunnel the CAA is fundraising for a mural to enhance Cuddies Lane and upper Spylaw Street.

Story

Building on success....A vision for Colinton

The Colinton Tunnel project brought many more visitors to our village, helping to build footfall and support local businesses during a very difficult time. The Colinton Amenity Association (CAA) now plans to build on that success by creating an 'art trail', linking the tunnel and the Robert Louis Stevenson trail to take visitors from the Water of Leith Walkway and guide them into the heart of the village. We know from experience that a positive start is important, which is why we hope to transform the grim gully of building backs along Cuddies Lane and on the upper part of Spylaw Street into a comprehensive illustrated pastoral scene, reflecting the Lane's historic use as a routeway to the ford over the Water of Leith and home to the local smiddy. Featuring horses and cattle at street level with a rural image of trees and hills behind.
