Carlisle Youth Zone (CYZ) is a charity that seeks to give young people aged 7 – 18yrs (up to 25yrs with additional needs) the opportunity to discover their passion and their purpose. Since opening in 2011, we have welcomed almost 16,000 young members, and currently receive around 1200 visits per week from young people accessing our 6 days and nights a week youth offer (think sports, arts, climbing wall, library, dance, gym, cooking, debates, Duke of Edinburgh's Award and so much more!).
Our vision is simple - to provide a safe and fun place where the potential of young people is developed and fulfilled. We do this by keeping our youth offer engaging and accessible to everyone. For just 50p per session we provide hours of fun, friendship and development to hundreds of young people each week.
We are marking our 13th birthday with a Cross Bay Walk from Arnside to Grange on Saturday 18th May 2024. Crossing varied terrain for for approximately 13,000 steps (between 5.5 to 7.5 miles depending on the safest route), this will be no ordinary walk! It is described as "a unique adventure across the shifting sands of the UK’s largest tidal bay".
The walk is symbolic of our commitment to young people in Carlisle - offering a safe space with reliable and consistent youth workers who support, challenge and inspire across 6 nights a week, 52 weeks of the year. We are in it for the long term, and walk alongside and with them, providing fun and adventure alongside support and discovery.
We are fundraising to support CYZ continue to provide the vital support of ‘somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to’ on an incredible scale.
