Dame Julie Kenny DBE DL was a truly remarkable woman who gave so much of herself to Wentworth Woodhouse and the people of South Yorkshire. Her generosity and passion inspired all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Julie had an unwavering vision for Wentworth Woodhouse, she saw what many people couldn’t – recognising the potential to become a beacon of opportunity and change for the region she loved so fiercely. She led the efforts to secure its purchase in 2017 and poured her heart and soul into the project every day thereafter, describing it as the greatest challenge of her life.

Julie’s vision extended far beyond restoring this magnificent House. She was determined to create opportunities for people from all walks of life through education, community engagement, and the preservation of our local heritage. Yet, despite impressive progress since 2017, the work is far from over. With over 300 rooms still in need of restoration and no endowment to sustain our effort, the Trust continues to operate under immense financial pressure each year.

To honour Julie’s extraordinary work, we are launching the Dame Julie Kenny Legacy Fund to ensure her vision lives on. This fund will provide vital long-term support to Wentworth Woodhouse, enabling us to continue the work that meant so much to Julie – not just maintaining and restoring the House, but enriching the lives of people across South Yorkshire.

Every contribution to the Dame Julie Kenny Legacy Fund, no matter the size, will play a vital role in continuing Julie’s mission and fulfilling the promise she made for Wentworth Woodhouse and the communities it serves.
