Story
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks can happen to anyone. They cause a loss of the fluid that surrounds, cushions and cleanses the brain and spine, resulting in crippling pain and disabling neurological symptoms which progressively worsen with sitting or standing. This means people spend most of their time lying flat, unable to participate in any kind of normal life. Once active people suddenly find themselves isolated, unable to work, care for themselves or their family. The impact of this on families is devastating and causes a high mental health burden.
The CSF Leak Association is supporting people with this rare neurological condition that can be challenging to diagnose and treat. Crucially it is curable with early diagnosis and treatment giving the best chance of total resolution of symptoms. Our vision is for everyone to be treated quickly to have the greatest chance of a full recovery.
Too often it goes undiagnosed which can lead to inappropriate or harmful treatments being given causing unnecessary suffering and the possibility of additional serious complications developing.
The charity is passionate about supporting patients, improving understanding and treatment of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks and encouraging research.
The CSF Leak Association is run solely by volunteers, meaning every penny goes towards advocating for swift access to diagnostic techniques and treatments, providing clear and consistent patient pathways in the NHS, supporting patients and encouraging research into CSF leaks. We appreciate any contribution you can make, every donation makes a big difference to the charity and patients. Thank you for your support. For more information visit csfleak.uk
