Dear Friends,
Today, I am eager to share with you the story of my son, Daniel, an avid chess player and a compassionate young Ukrainian.
The world of chess is a game of strategy and patience. It teaches us about planning, about foresight and the importance of making the right moves. But what if a game of chess could change lives? This is the mission Daniel has set himself on.
Last year, many children from Ukraine arrived in Buckinghamshire, having faced the harsh realities of war back home. Being the compassionate young man he is, Daniel felt a strong urge to do something to bring a bit of joy into the lives of these brave young souls. And so, the idea of "Daniel's Chess Challenge: A Move for Hope" was born.
On July 2nd 2023, as part of the WhizzFizzFest - a vibrant celebration of children's literature and creative arts inspired by Roald Dahl - Daniel had been playing chess. However, this is not just any game of chess. Daniel was playing to raise funds to organise a visit for these Ukrainian children to the Roald Dahl Museum.
His mission is to give them a day of joy, wonder and escape, immersed in the world of one of the greatest children's authors of all time, Roald Dahl, a day where the only giants they'll encounter are the Big Friendly kind.
So far, we've around £600, and we're aiming for £860. This money will help us take 50 Ukrainians on a fantastic visit to the Roald Dahl Museum on 26th November 2023. It's not just about the visit; we also want to give each child a gift voucher to buy a book or a souvenir from the museum shop.
We really need your help to make this day extra special. Your donations will help us give each child a voucher to get any book by Roald Dahl and also enjoy a warm drink. Every little bit you give will make this trip a wonderful experience for these children.
