Story
Their vision is to improve Neurodivergent children‘s experiences when accessing appointments at Dunston Health Centre.
The Bladder and Bowel Nurses were presented the North East Autism ACCEPTANCE GOLD Award in 2025 and continue to fundraise to continue to improve the clinic environment for not only autistic children who use their service, but also all children and families who access DUNSTON Health Centre for their Community Children Nurses, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Podiatry appointments.
The current projects they are fundraising for are to develop and maintain 2 sensory flower gardens in front of Dunston Health Centre to provide a better patient experiences and a "breathing space" before children enter the building to reduce stress and anxiety before their appointments·to design and equip a Quiet/ Sensory Room in the waiting area that any child can access which will provide a controlled, calming environment that helps reduces anxiety, manages sensory overload, and improves the overall patient experience when attending medical appointment at the centre.
