We are a volunteer led charity who work with local communities across Africa and Asia, empowering them to gain access to education, health care and sanitation. We help people on their own terms to lift themselves out of poverty, and live productive and healthy lives.
In 2018 Datum Foundation ran a successful appeal to raise £17,000 for the Maternity Clinic in the rural village of Chikwina in northern Malawi. We are pleased to confirm that despite the Covid pandemic all the works are successfully completed. The unit is now providing a clean and safe facility for the care of new babies for mothers from across the region.
This year Datum Foundation are proposing to return to Chikwina and undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of the existing Community Clinic. The facility comprises an external waiting area, consulting room, treatment room, two small Ward Rooms and an office.
The hard-working staff are forced to deliver vital healthcare in very poor and insanitary conditions. Datum Foundation are proposing to undertake refurbishment of all areas. The works include, the redecoration of all internal and external areas and the supply and installation of new furniture, fixtures and fittings as required to make the building operational including: desks, chairs, beds, bed linen, mosquito nets, and medical equipment. All works will be undertaken by local skilled workers.
We have targeted our initial fundraising at £10,000 to allow us to start the refurbishment and refit of the existing Clinic early in 2022. We hope that once again we can count on your generous donations for this important project.
Many sincere thanks for your continued support.
