On 15 June, we are inviting families, friends and work colleagues to orienteer around the wider Sidmouth sanctuary and help raise funds to alleviate suffering for donkeys and mules - like the 29 Blackpool beach donkeys rescued from months of repeated abuse by their owners.
Subjected to inhumane treatment and without basic care, we took ownership of the donkeys, but many of the donkeys had serious health concerns and sadly, two of them had to be put to sleep.
However, since coming into our care, the remaining 27 donkeys have had their lives turned around, both physically and emotionally, with the support of vets, farriers, equine dentists and grooms.
After months of care, rehabilitation and patience from our dedicated team, we are pleased to see that they are now in much better condition, are more relaxed and are coming out of themselves.
So far, the cost of their care, including stabling and veterinary care has exceeded £100,000 and it is only with your support that The Donkey Sanctuary can continue to help donkeys and mules, here in the UK as well as further afield.
Sadly, cases like these only highlight the terrible abuse some donkeys continue to face in the UK today; help us provide a safe and secure future for more donkeys like the rescued Blackpool beach donkeys, by donating to this campaign today. Every penny raised is amazing and will directly help donkeys in need.
The family-friendly 5k or adventurous 10k charity challenge will enjoy the stunning walks around the sanctuary, where hundreds of friendly rescue donkeys live in peace and free from suffering and you can see for yourself just how the money donated directly helps improve their lives.
