We are the current group of local volunteers who organise, maintain and fundraise for the streetlamp Christmas Lights around Banff and Macduff, including all 114 motifs and the two Christmas Tree Displays at Banff and Macduff Primary Schools.
The fixed costs for putting the lights up each year is just under £1000 and as much of the work is done by volunteers as possible. When we raise more than that, we can spend the excess on repairs, replacements and improvements to the displays around the towns.
Last year we have invested in (and built) new lights for all of Duff Street, after the minimum pavement width rule introduced in 2018 meant we couldn't use any of our existing lights there for road safety reasons. The new 'fairy light wrap' lights which don't stick out over the pavement add some festive cheer back to Duff Street and we hope to keep working on other projects and improvements like this around the towns.
We've also ran our own 'design a light' competition with both primary schools for the fourth year running, with another 2 new lights built from scratch this year based on winning pupil's drawings. You can see these lights on the street just outside of each Primary School and we hope to continue this in future years.
Please consider donating to support the Christmas lights in our towns for next year and beyond.
