As we enter the next phase of lockdown, the need for face masks will increase. Standard masks don't meet the needs of deaf people, who rely on lipreading and facial cues. In collaboration with Breathe Easy, we want to provide suitable alternatives.
With the rise in people wearing face-coverings due to the coronavirus pandemic, this presents additional challenges for deaf people who rely on lipreading to communicate. This is a particular problem in hospital or clinical environments, such as at the Covid-19 testing centres. Adding communication barriers to an already stressful and frightening experience creates an additional burden for deaf people.
We want to resolve this problem, and with your support, we can commission the production of bespoke masks and get these to the people who need them most. Our expert team have already worked in collaboration with manufacturers to test prototype masks and help perfect the design. We are ready to support our community to reduce the impact of this crisis. Your support will help us to turn our plans into action.
