Story
Deal Museum is a hidden gem and it belongs to all of us.
UPDATE: We have been granted planning permission.
You did it, Deal!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we are thrilled to announce that we have now reached our £12,500 Boatyard Campaign target!
Every single donation, share, and message of support has helped make this possible, and we could not be more grateful. This is a true community achievement, and you should all feel proud of what you have helped bring to life.
Now the real excitement begins. Starting next week, we will be demolishing the old sheds and preparing the ground for our brand new building. It is the first big step towards creating a space we can all enjoy.
Be sure to follow our journey on Facebook and Instagram, where we will be sharing updates as the transformation unfolds.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support, your belief, and your enthusiasm. We cannot wait to welcome you all back to the Boatyard once the new build is complete, and celebrate the opening together.
Here is to the next chapter!
The Deal Museum Team.
For over 50 years, our little museum has proudly told the story of Deal's incredible seafaring past, its people, and its place in the world. It's run entirely by volunteers and fuelled by community spirit, and is loved by generations of locals and visitors alike.
Now we're asking for your help to shape its future.
We have a big dream to transform part of our old boatyard into a bright, beautiful multi-use space – a community hub where schoolchildren, local groups, visiting artists, and heritage lovers can gather, learn, create and connect.
This is also an essential part of helping us attract more groups and visitors, and with luck, create a much needed new revenue stream to help keep the Museum thriving into the future.
But first, we need to say goodbye fondly to our current patchwork of sheds. They're charming, yes, but weary and weathered. They’ve bravely protected our artefacts for years, but they can’t take us into this next chapter.
We need to raise £10,000 to make this vision real – and we can't do it without you. We want to:
Build a new purpose-built space in the boatyard
Welcome more schoolchildren and community groups
Host poetry and music evenings and cultural events
Offer classes, talks and exhibitions all year round
Keep Deal's proud history alive and thriving
