Providing Advice and Support to People in Crisis Debt

We are a registered national debt advice and education charity. Each year, we provide debt and welfare benefits advice to over 10,000 people via our free telephone helpline. We can only continue our vital work with your support.

Our aim is to tackle the causes and impact of problem debt. We do this through our DebtAware education programme, which provides children with the knowledge and skills they'll need to manage their money in the future and through our debt advice telephone helpline, for those impacted by debt today.

Story

I am dealing with crippling debt issues. Talking to the advisor lifted a massive weight off my shoulder. The problem is not over, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Hard to express how grateful I am for the service you provide - Laszlo

Debt can impact anyone at any time. Redundancy, reduced work hours, relationship breakdown and illness are just a few of the many reasons people find themselves in financial difficulty through no fault of their own.

According to Money and Pensions Service, 39% of the UK adult population, equating to 21 million people, is currently either in need of debt advice or deemed ‘at risk’ of falling into problem debt.

Problem debt can have a devastating effect on families who aren't able to access free and impartial debt advice. Debt not only affects physical and mental wellbeing, often leading to depression and anxiety but it can also significantly impact the lives of children and other household dependants and can even lead to homelessness.

With the cost of living crisis pushing increasing numbers of households across the UK into financial hardship, the need for free and impartial debt and welfare benefits advice has never been more vital.

Debt Advice Foundation is a registered national debt advice and education charity. Each year, we provide vital debt and welfare benefits advice to over 10,000 people, who have called our free telephone advice service for help with their debts.

I called because I was totally overwhelmed with shame and anxiety due to my debt. I got in touch 3 years ago with Stephen and he has been quite literally a saviour. His calmness and assurance cultivates hope even despite the hopelessness of the situation. Keep going guys, you’re worth your weight in gold - Andrew

We not only help callers to understand the options that are available to them to deal with their debts effectively but we also provide budgeting and welfare benefits advice to help build financial resilience and give callers hope for the future.

By donating, you can help us continue our vital work to provide free debt and welfare benefits advice to those that need our help most.
