Diamonds in the Community aim to improve the lives of individuals living in the local community by providing much needed services and groups which are otherwise lacking. We hope to provide opportunities to improve residents physical and mental health as well as giving them opportunities to socialise and learn new skills. We also offer practical support to individuals and families who are going through times of difficulties and hardship.
COMMUNITY GROUPS
We operate community groups across the week (Monday to Friday) which are completely inclusive for all living in the Airdrie and surrounding areas. These groups are;
Arts Group: For all levels of ability. Fantastic social group and opportunity to learn new skills.
Boccia: All inclusive sport. Fun yet competitive with great social benefits.
Breakfast & Blether: Warm space and food with good company and chat.
Chit Chat: Warm space with as much tea, coffee & biscuits as you wish. Good company and conversation with regular activities.
Family Group: For under 5’s and their parents/carers. Fun play and healthy snacks.
Football Memories Group: Reminiscence group, with old memorabilia and regular guest speakers and hot drink and pie.
RISE Running Group: Run, Improve, Socialise and Encourage. Running group with emphasis on support and camaraderie.
Walk & Talk Group: Social walking group, aims to benefit mental as well as physical health.
Walking Football: Open to all ages & genders. Emphasis on fun, social activity yet still competitive.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Monklands Baby & Family Clothing Aid/Home Comforts Service: Operating on a referral basis working with Social & Health Services and other community organisations we can offer support to individuals and families struggling financially as a result of various causes including Homelessness, Domestic Violence, Seeking Asylum, Addictions, Health Conditions & Disabilities and Cost of Living amongst others. We can offer support in the form of Clothing, Shoes, Toiletries, Household Essentials including Crockery, Kitchen appliances, Pots & Pans, Towels, Bedding, Curtains, White Goods & Furniture and many other day to day essentials.
We also offer various free products on a no questions asked basis including; Free period products, toiletries, nappies etc
RECYCLING SERVICES
We offer a number of services which can directly benefit individuals and families living in our community as well as benefitting the local environment. These services include;
Wrap up Lanarkshire: Working with Coatbridge, Airdrie & Monklands Rotary Club we offer a free winter coat/jacket to anyone in need.
Bike Recycling Scheme: Working with Restorative Justice we take any unused bikes and send them to be refurbished and put back out into the community for anyone in need.
Tech Recycle Scheme: Taking old unused or unwanted laptops and tablets we again have them completely refurbed and put back into the community for people experiencing Digital Exclusion.
Football Boot Swap Shop: Taking old unwanted football boots and recycling them back into the community, offering families the chance to save financially when sizing up their children’s boots.
KitAid: Working with the KitAid charity based in England we operate as the Scottish Hub to take unused sportswear and send repurpose them to some of the most underprivileged countries around the world.
These services along with the recycling done via the Monklands Baby & Family Clothing Aid service stop many tonnes of waste going to landfill.
Any donations we receive enable these and future services to continue helping our community.
