Dickie came to Helping Hounds dog rescue after his family in London were not permitted by their landlord to keep him in their home. Clearly a much loved pet who loves his humans he settled quickly into his foster home and his cheerful, playful character shone through.
He came into rescue with no medical history, so he needed to be vaccinated and neutered. While recovering from his neuter operation he developed a strong adverse reaction to the painkiller Metacam, which was prescribed by the vet to aid his post-op recovery. Poor Dickie suddenly developed hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and was rushed into the vet hospital. Even with fantastic round-the-clock care his tiny body struggled to recover and he would not eat for many days.
After a week in hospital with fluids, a feeding tube in one end, and a catheter in the other end, he was finally well enough to be discharged and recover in his foster home. We’re so pleased that he’s on the road to recovery, is putting on weight, and has now found a new family ready to give him his forever home.
The bill from the vet hospital though was not such a happy outcome and our reserves have been depleted by the £7,300 cost of the emergency care Dickie so urgently needed. This fundraiser has been set up to help build up our reserves again so that we can continue to give many more dogs the much-needed medical help they need before being rehomed.
