Thank you for visiting the Everyman Theatre's Just Giving page. We're raising funds for our two fantastic pantomime charities: St James City Farm & Riding School in Gloucester and Scrubditch Care Farm near Cirencester.
On Sunday 2nd October our team of intrepid walkers completed a 10 mile charity hike which followed in the footsteps of our pantomime hero, Dick Whittington, by walking from his home at Pauntley Court to (little) London. It was a huge success helped by unexpected, but very welcome, wonderful weather!
So many members of our group walked further than they thought possible, so we smashed a couple of personal bests!
The walk achieved everything we hoped for, bringing people from different communities and with varying abilities together for a day walking through beautiful countryside, whilst raising awareness and funds for two very deserving local charities: St James City Farm in Gloucester and Scrubditch Care Farm near Cirencester.

We at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham are passionate about everything we do, not only on stage but of all our education and charity work within our local community. Every Christmas, the theatre nominates a local charity to be our Pantomime charity partner. This year we are supporting two small, local charities, St James City Farm & Riding School in Gloucester and Scrubditch Care Farm near Cirencester. Both of these organisations work with vulnerable people, helping to promote wellbeing and good mental health. We have seen the wonderful work they do and we are dedicated to helping them raise funds to enable them to continue to provide opportunities for the more vulnerable in our society. Theatre staff are organising a range of fundraising activities, including a sponsored ten mile walk on Sunday 2nd October. Please sponsor our team who completed this challenge, climbing May Hill along the way, as we hope to raise a total of £20,000 from both the walk and bucket collections during the run of this year's panto, Dick Whittington & His Cat Tweedy.
St James City Farm & Riding School lies at the heart of one of the most deprived areas of Gloucestershire and offers a taste of the countryside to those who need it most, as well as being a wonderful place to visit for families. It offers hands on practical farm experience and acts as a gateway, building knowledge, experience and aspirations, so city people can have fun, learn and benefit from interaction with animals and nature. Run by The Friendship Cafe - a registered local charity, run mainly by volunteers - the farm provides a safe and welcoming space for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.
Scrubditch Care Farm near Cirencester provides therapeutic farm-based activities for adults and young people with learning disabilities and mental health issues, as well as people living with dementia, helping to build confidence and independence. Attendees gain new skills and knowledge, helping to care for the animals, grow fruit and vegetables, cook with the produce and spend time enjoying the countryside.

Sponsor the walkers who have shared their inspiring stories: Meet Jackie who started as a volunteer at St James City Farm during lockdown. Jackie joined as she was struggling with grief and mental health issues following a family tragedy that happened just before the Covid outbreak. She has always loved nature and being outdoors and her daughter, Molly, had completed work experience and also volunteered at the farm for several years too. The farm has helped both Molly and Jackie and the sponsored walk is a way of 'giving something back'.
Sponsor the walkers who have shared their inspiring stories: Meet Ella, who is 29 and has learning difficulties and autism. Ella attends Scrubditch Care Farm one day per week as part of her structured activity plan. It is great to see how much her confidence has grown with the opportunity to work hands on with farm animals and grow produce in a safe environment; geared towards vulnerable people. Ella is walking with her Mum, Emma, to raise much-needed funds and she would be delighted if you could sponsor her!
Sponsor the walkers who have shared their inspiring stories: Meet Alex. Alex was encouraged to volunteer at St James City Farm by the Job Centre as she was unemployed and struggling with her mental health. Initially Alex was anxious if there were too many people at the farm and would leave due to panic attacks. Over time Alex gained in confidence, took on new responsibilities resulting in working on a farm on the Isles of Scilly and also a temporary job looking after cattle at Hartpury College. She is walking to raise awareness of how the farm has helped transform her life.
