Common Purse Emergency Fund

The DDP Common Purse Emergency Fund is to assist with emergency needs and barriers to participation in our sewing hubs. Trustees assess applications. Uses include: sewing tools, mobile data, transport, food, additional workplace safety resources.

We support people out of situations of financial hardship by providing skills training, resources and pastoral care. Our online training platform enables us to reach people wherever they are, even in remote parts of the world. We offer training, raise funds to provide equipment and support a network of volunteers building craft hubs in their local communities. Our patented dress design has been developed so it can be used as an enterprise tool, the sales of which are fed back into our charity pot to grow and support more people out of poverty. The clever cut, pleats and carefully situated ties on the dress eliminate the need for zips, other trimmings and complex machinery. The project can therefore support makers from situations of hardship, even in remote parts of the world. The project has been developed specifically for charity work, based around Christian ethical values.

Story

What is the Common Purse?

We are asking donors to give to the DDP Common Purse Emergency Fund. This small fund is to assist with some of the barriers to participation in the sewing hubs, and deals with immediate, emergency need. It is distributed after trustees assess emergency applications. The applicant must state why they need the money and understand that it is for one-time assistance and not a regular gift. The applicant must give a referee (who is connected to the hub in their area) so we can authenticate their need and affirm funds are spent according to the application.

What do we need to raise?

Our target is have £1500 available for emergencies. If we raise over this target these additional funds will be used to support sewing hubs purchase similar items, before an emergency situation arises.

What will your monthly donation provide?

Please bear in mind many of our participates live hand to mouth, with no saves or 'rainy day' money. When a crisis hits it can affect all of their life decisions.

£2 will often be sufficient to buy return public transport to a sewing session.

£5 will often be sufficient to provide a participant's family food for the day.

£10 will contribute towards medicine for an infection that is preventing the ability to work.

£25 will contribute towards the repair of a shared motorbike, used to transport the participants to and from the workplace.

Sewing is more than a means of providing income to meet family needs. As Pushpa explains

"Sewing and dressmaking brings me joy because it reduces my stress and anxiety."

Help us, help our participants live and fulfilling and meaningful life.
