Dotties Little Hog Hospital: Better Cages. Brighter Futures.

Dottie’s Little Hog Hospital in Herne Bay cares for 100+ hedgehogs at any time. Our old cages are no longer fit for purpose. We’re raising funds for vet-grade enclosures to give sick and injured hogs the safe, warm recovery spaces they deserve.

Story

Dottie’s Little Hog Hospital – Cage Upgrade Fundraiser

Dottie’s Little Hog Hospital is a specialist hedgehog rescue providing care, rehabilitation, and a safe, low-stress environment for sick, injured, and orphaned hogs. With over 100 in our care at any time, warmth, hygiene, and close monitoring are vital to give each one the best chance of returning to the wild.

“Every hog that comes through our doors gets the same promise – we will do everything we can.”

Many of our current cages are now very old and no longer meet the needs of modern rescue work. They are harder to clean, maintain at the right temperature, and adapt for different medical and recovery stages. We plan to replace them with professional veterinary-grade enclosures, offering better hygiene, safer materials, improved visibility, and more suitable recovery space.

These cages are a major investment. Through this fundraiser, alongside our own funds and grant applications, we aim to replace half of our hospital enclosures. Your support will directly improve daily care and future survival for every hedgehog that comes through our doors.

“When you are caring for this many fragile lives, hygiene, visibility and temperature control are not luxuries – they are essential.”

The Solution: Veterinary-Grade Hospital Housing.

After many months of research, we have found the best option: professional vet grade cage bays.

These will give us:

* Safer, more hygienic recovery spaces

* Better temperature control for critical patients

* Clear visibility for monitoring without stress

* Faster, more effective cleaning between admissions

This isn’t about luxury it’s about survival and successful release.

How You Can Be Part of Their Recovery

This is a huge project and we are committing to doing everything we can through our own fundraising, events and grant applications to make it happen.

Your donation becomes:

*A warm space for a hypothermic hog

*A clean hospital bed for a post-surgery patient

*A quiet recovery area for an orphaned baby

*A better chance of release back to the wild

Why This Matters

Every upgraded enclosure will be used again and again, for years to come, saving hundreds of hedgehogs.

“This isn’t just a cage. It’s the place where a tiny heart stabilises, where weight is gained, where strength returns, and where a wild future begins again.”

From all of us and every hog who will pass through our doors …. thank you for being part of their second chance. 🦔
