Dr David Sturgeon (3rd July 1947 – 19th April 2024)
Dr David Sturgeon was a Consultant psychiatrist at University College Hospital in London and then helped establish and support the University College London Student Psychotherapy scheme.
He retired in the summer of 2023 and tragically had a serious fall soon after, resulting in a severe spinal cord injury and paralysis from the chest down. He was in intensive care for many months before being discharged to Northwick Park Hospital’s Rehabilitation Unit. The care given to David by Professor Lynne Turner-Stokes and her team was exceptional as was the continuous support given to his wife and daughters.
He was transferred from Northwick Park Hospital to Wilsmere House nursing home. He was very happy in his last few months there, enjoying the beautiful setting and welcoming family and friends to his new home. He died peacefully at Wilsmere House on 19th April.
The family are eternally grateful for everything the Unit did for David and the remarkable quality of care they give to patients with such complex and life-changing needs.
If you would like to make a donation, funds will go to the Rehabilitation Unit and will be used for several purposes, such as to improve facilities for patients and their families, training for staff and for research and development.
