My name is Dre and I'm a Wellbeing Personal Trainer at Nuffield Health Centre in Norwich. Through my work I have dedicated my life to helping others achieve physical and mental wellness. But behind the strength I help others build, lies a life long journey of my own-a journey marked by challenges, tragedies, resilience, and newfound understanding.
From childhood to adulthood, I've navigated the turbulent waters of mental health, facing hurdles that often seemed insurmountable. It wasn't until the age of 44 that I received a diagnosis that would change everything: Autism. This revelation brought clarity and understanding as to why I have struggled so much, but it also fueled an already burning desire to advocate for mental health awareness and support.
Over the past year, I've had the privilege of working closely with Norfolk and Waveney MIND, helping them shape their unique CHIME+ recovery program. The program strives to empower people with the understanding, and knowledge to help themselves overcome life's challenges. Through a collaboration between Norfolk and Waveney MIND and Nuffield Health Norwich, I have been able to demonstrate how physical activity can have a significant impact on mental health. Through this experience, I've witnessed the profound impact that community, support, and understanding can have on those battling mental health issues.
Now, I'm embarking on a new challenge-one that symbolises strength of mind, strength of body, resilience, and determination. I'm stepping into the ring for my first Strongman competition, beginners class of Norfolk's Strongest Man. But I'm not just lifting weights; I'm lifting spirits, raising awareness, and rallying support for the fantastic work being done by Norfolk and Waveney MIND.
By participating in this competition, I aim to shine a spotlight on the vital work being done by Norfolk and Waveney MIND, while also raising crucial funds to ensure that their programs and services can reach those who need them most. Every donation, no matter how small, is a step towards building a brighter, more resilient community-one where mental health is valued, supported, and understood.
