Story
Hello, my Name is Drew Cairns I’m a dad to 3 amazing kids, husband to my beautiful wife and dog dad to 2 crazy labradors.
When I was 20 I almost lost a close family member to suicide. Fortunately he survived but this had a massive impact on myself and there wasn’t a huge amount of support available. A year later I lost a nephew who was more like a brother. I did not know where to look for help or If indeed any help was even available.
I recently became a well being volunteer in my work place to try and encourage men and woman with mental health problems to speak up and not suffer in silence. I wanted to do more though and in particular tackle the stigma that surrounds men and mental health.
My research into men’s Mental health charities led me to Changes East Lothian and more specifically their men’s group. I am now a proud volunteer with this group every Monday night. The statistics around male suicide rates in our country are frightening and saddening.
I am not only doing this Sky dive to raise Money for the men’s group but to raise awareness of Changes East Lothian and also highlight the issue around Men’s mental health any donations no matter how small shall be gratefully received.
