Story
Every year families are affected by road collisions involving mature drivers. But behind every statistic is something more difficult to measure. Conversations that did not happen. Decisions that were delayed. Support that was not there.
In 2018 as a positive legacy after a family tragedy, we formed the first voluntary Older Drivers Forum in Gloucestershire. https://www.olderdriversforum.com/Gloucestershire
We are now a division of GOPA (RCN 1124977) and operate under it's charitable status. All funds raised will go to support the Drive Safer Longer campaign
Our aim is simple, help mature drivers drive safely for longer, support planning for driving retirement, and provide reassurance to families and carers.
With a small voluntary team with limited funding we have provided; 100+ community talks reaching nearly 3,000 people, 50+ free community webinars with over 4,000 attendees, a network of 1,700+ partners, practical tools including free mature driver reviews.
Indicators of the effectiveness of our work is that Gloucestershire - with a higher-than-average older population driving predominantly on riskier rural roads - has become a positive outlier in mature driver fatalities.
These trends suggest that early consistent, engagement may be making a difference.
In 2025 we received an IMPACT Award from the Gloucestershire Chief Constable and Police Crime Commissioner for outstanding voluntary work in support of the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership.
Funds raised will help expand community outreach, develop new webinar content, improve practical tools, and reach more drivers earlier.
Thank you for your support in helping mature drivers stay mobile, connected and independent for as long as it is safe to do so.
