The Heritage Hub

Every community has a story to tell. The Heritage Hub will ensure that the story of Sunart is preserved, celebrated and shared for generations to come.

We are raising funds to transform the former Church of Scotland in Strontian into a vibrant Heritage Hub—a welcoming space where the history, culture and people of Sunart can be brought together under one roof.

Over many years, local residents have generously donated and collected an extraordinary range of artefacts, photographs, documents and memorabilia that tell the story of our area. These precious items deserve a permanent home where they can be cared for, displayed and enjoyed by everyone. The Heritage Hub will not only safeguard our shared heritage but also create a place where local people, schools and visitors can discover and celebrate the rich history of Sunart.

Before work can begin, we are carrying out architectural and structural surveys to establish the cost of converting the building. We will then apply for funding from a range of grant-giving organisations. While we are hopeful of securing significant support, these funders expect to see strong evidence that the local community believes in the project and is willing to invest in it too.

Every donation, large or small, brings us one step closer to making the Heritage Hub a reality. Your support will not only help fund the restoration of this historic building but will also demonstrate the community’s commitment to preserving the heritage that makes Sunart such a special place.

Subject to securing the necessary funding, we hope to begin the conversion in 2027, with the project expected to take around 18 months to complete.

Although the church is owned by the Sunart Community Company, the Heritage Hub project is being driven by a dedicated team of local volunteers who are passionate about protecting our history and creating a lasting legacy for future generations.
