Story
DAY's mission is to empower young people to make positive change for themselves and their communities through the provision of a young person informed youth service. We do this through the delivery of a range of activities, where we aim to support young people during their adolescent transition to develop trusted relationships, make informed choices around key developmental areas and give them a sense of purpose and achievement.
We currently deliver youth work to over 500 young people aged between 6 – 18 in the areas of West Rainton, Pittington, Sherburn, Sherburn Hill, Great Lumley, Bournmoor and Belmont within County Durham. Based from community hubs and local facilities we ensure our youth and community work is 'on their turf' engaging young people in areas we can reach them. We provide the following direct support: Centre Based Youth Work (26 hours per week, 5 evenings in 6 locations); Within these sessions we deliver specific intervention support around physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, healthy relationships, local culture and history, creativity through the arts, LGBTQ awareness and volunteering. We have a young volunteer program for young people aged 11-18, currently working with 62 young volunteers. This provides training and mentoring allowing them to grow in confidence, leadership and teamwork. This also feeds into our youth forum which provides young people with a space to inform the delivery of our services and design intervention programmes relevant for their needs.
