Duxford to Dęblin

To commemorate the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and 100th anniversary of the Polish Air Force University, we are working with The Polish Heritage Flight to send Hurricane G-HURI from Duxford to Dęblin, Poland in No.302 Squadron colours.

Story

In August 2026, the Polish Heritage Flight will undertake an historic and deeply symbolic journey: flying Hawker Hurricane G-HURI — proudly marked as an aircraft of No. 302 (Polish) Squadron — from Duxford in the United Kingdom to Poland.

This special flight is an act of remembrance, gratitude and unity — bringing one of the very types of aircraft Polish pilots flew in defence of freedom back to Polish soil, a journey many were unable to make after the war, in honour of the courage, sacrifice and shared history of Polish and Allied airmen.

At the very heart of this project is something profoundly personal: a unique Pilot’s Log Book that will become a flying, living memorial.

Through our “Your Words, Their Wings” initiative, people from around the world are warmly invited to submit a message, a name, a dedication or a short tribute — to remember people, crew, family, friends or anyone who served that you’d like to honour. It may commemorate a squadron, an event, a place of remembrance, or simply express thanks for the bravery shown by Poland’s people during the Second World War on land, at sea and in the air.

Every single message is carefully hand-written by Polish Heritage Flight pilot Dave Harvey into this special log book. Once complete, the finished book will travel inside the cockpit of the Hurricane during the entire journey and, upon arrival in Dęblin, will be presented to the Polish Air Force as a permanent tribute — a powerful collection of thousands of personal voices carried across borders in the very type of aircraft that helped defend freedom.

Many of those heroic Polish airmen never returned home. Some who survived were denied the chance to return, facing imprisonment or worse. This flight — and the words it carries — stands as a bridge between generations, a shared thank you, and a promise to never forget.

To make this journey possible, we need to raise around £30,000 to cover specialist insurance, international flight permits, fuel, aircraft maintenance, support aircraft, logistics and more.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of supporters around the world, we are now over three-quarters of the way towards our fundraising target. This is a remarkable milestone and demonstrates just how strongly people believe in preserving and sharing the story of the Polish wartime contribution to freedom.

Every donation received so far has helped bring this historic flight closer to reality, and we are deeply grateful for the support shown by individuals, families, organisations and veterans' communities across many countries. However, there is still some way to go before Hurricane G-HURI can carry this unique flying memorial from Duxford to Dęblin.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ensure that thousands of personal messages of remembrance and gratitude can make the journey to Poland aboard the very type of aircraft flown by Polish airmen during the Second World War.

Add your own words to the log book and support this historic flight.

Even the price of a coffee or a beer can help carry someone’s message across the sky.

Together we can ensure these personal words of memory and thanks take flight — honouring the past and inspiring the future.

PAMIĘTAMY. INSPIRUJEMY. ZJEDNOCZENI.

Thank You
