Story
Legal Aid is getting harder and harder to obtain for victims of domestic abuse. Without LA the only way to obtain any civil protection order is by paying privately for solicitors, or applying directly to the courts as a litigant in person ( without the benefit of a solicitor to represent you ) You may also be asked to pay unaffordable contributions if you are lucky enough to secure public funding.
With certain types of orders there are court fees to pay if you are not eligible for legal aid.
Many family courts have closed down due to government cuts. That means victims having to travel for at least an hour to get to a family court. Journeys that some victims cannot afford to make, or who have to pay for childcare whilst they are at court.
DV Assist has historically, paid travel costs, including buses, trains taxis, helped with court fees and childcare costs in order form them to obtain the necessary safeguarding at court to protect them and their families.
We do not have a bottomless pit and there is no funding available.
Your contribution we help us to continue making these payments to victims.
