Story
At GET OUT we believe ALL young people should have the same access to the natural world, and we are confident those with a traditionally limited experience of the environment can become some of the strongest voices for its protection. Our programme of surfing, outdoor education and food growing projects is designed to help overcome the disconnect between young people and the environment.
Our surf programme has been running for two years, and in that time we have taken 140 young people on surf day trips, while a further 63 have experienced our surf camps.
We now need your help to launch Tower Hamlets first ever surf club and give those who join our surf programme - and anyone else from a disadvantaged area in the borough - the chance to enjoy the sea and learn to surf on a monthly basis.
Our plan is to take a minibus of young surfers to a beach at least once a month. This means we need staff and volunteers, surf instructors, surfboards and wetsuits as a minimum for each trip. We also will hold meetups back in Tower Hamlets featuring short films and surf-related activities.
We have already had lots of interest and we will not limit the number of young people who join the club. Of course, there will be a limit to how many surfers we can take each month, but our members will be contacted at least a week in advance and invited to book their place. We really hope we are oversubscribed because that will only give us more motivation to grow, and to reach a point where we are able to provide another minibus and double the number of young people we are connecting with nature each month.
Hitting our target will mean we can launch the club and fund our first year of monthly trips and meetups. Your contribution will make a difference to our charity and the lives of the young people we work with.
