There is a growing Muslim population in Edinburgh of whom are from a younger demographic and age group and this is expected to grow over the next decade, mosques are full every Friday with overflow areas being used. A requirement for a centre and social hub has arisen.
Over the last decade we have been running an educational and community based registered charity to help people to understand Islam and always wanted to further this vision into a base. We have been running over a decade without any issues and we have now found a church which will help us to fulfill our aims and activities there. At such an affordable city centre rate (300k), we are now asking our donors to help us raise this amount and secure the centre.
The sole purpose is to promote a better understanding of Islam for non muslims and educate Muslims properly to be good members of their society and at the core of their call is education and upon the Quran and Sunnah so that they are equipped with the right tools for engagement with the community. We have always maintained good ties with the community, local authorities, and further abroad with speakers and organisations.
The location:
Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland with various historical landmarks and is one of the strongest economy outside of London in the UK.
It is the centre of tourism and hosts various festivals of which includes the famous and the largest in the world, the Edinburgh Fringe. This festival for example happens in August which attracts several million people around the globe.
It hosts a number of world recognised universities and the city accounts for the highest number of professionals in the UK i.e those who hold a University qualification.
This is more reason to make sure we build a space to act as a cultural and arts exchange space, so this centre is not just about Muslims and for Muslims but for all, the neighbors and the wider community.
